The things people ask before they try xplit, and a few they ask afterwards.

Not to start. Without an account, everything you enter stays in your browser. Sign in with Google or Apple when you want the same trips on another device, or when you want to share a trip with the people on it. Whatever you entered before signing in becomes part of your account.
It first works out each person's balance: what they paid minus their share of everything they took part in. Then it matches the people who are owed the most with the people who owe the most, so the whole group is square in as few transfers as possible. There is a longer explanation on the blog, with an example.
Yes. By default an activity's cost is shared equally by everyone in it. Give some people a fixed amount and the rest is split equally among the others. That covers the usual cases: the friend who only had a coffee, the couple that took the bigger room, the one person who skipped the museum.
They are still credited for what they paid. A parent who books the boat for the kids and stays on shore ends up being owed the full amount, which is what you would expect.
If you want them to. The owner of a trip creates an invitation link and chooses what it grants: viewing only, or full access. People who open the link sign in and join. You can change what each person can do later, replace the link, or stop sharing by link altogether while everyone who already joined keeps their access.
No. It tells you who owes whom and how much, and you settle up however you like: cash, a bank transfer, a payment app. xplit never touches a payment and never asks for card details.
You choose the currency amounts are shown in, and that is the currency the trip is counted in. xplit does not convert between currencies, so if a trip mixes them, enter everything in one currency and let the group agree on the rate.
Yes. The app keeps a full copy of your data in the browser and reads and writes that copy, so it is quick and keeps working on a plane or in a basement restaurant. When you are signed in and back online, changes sync in the background.
The web app works in a phone's browser and fits a small screen. There is also a native iPhone app, and the two share one account when you sign in, so a trip started on the phone is there in the browser and the other way round.
In your browser, always. When you sign in, a copy is kept on our servers too, so that it reaches your other devices and the people you share a trip with. Signing out removes the copy in that browser and leaves the account as it was. The privacy page says what we store and why.
Yes. Every trip and activity can be exported as a self-contained web page that prints well, or as plain text for pasting into a message. The export lists what was paid, who took part, each share, the balances, and who owes whom.
The walkthrough goes through a whole trip step by step, and the features page describes each part in more detail.
